Job size is set from the category and the homeowner's answers, and shown before you act. “Just pricing” jobs are always charged as small. Pro pays for itself once you'd spend more than £24 a month on Pay-as-you-go shortlists.
How it works
For trades
- 1Sign up and get verified. Upload your insurance and register numbers (NAPIT, NICEIC, Gas Safe and others). We check them by hand. Verification is free.
- 2Set your patch. Your base postcode and how far you'll travel for each trade, up to 50 miles. Pause any time.
- 3See every matching job. Same jobs, same moment, same order for everyone. The fee and slots left are on every lead.
- 4Ask, then show interest. One free question first. Showing interest is free.
- 5Get picked, then pay. Only when the homeowner shortlists you. Their details unlock and the chat opens.
For homeowners
- 1Post your job for free. Pick the trade, answer a few questions, add photos and your postcode.
- 2See who covers your area. We tell you the real number of verified trades nearby, even if it's none yet.
- 3Hear from interested trades. See their badges, reviews and work, and answer any questions.
- 4Shortlist up to 3. Only the trades you pick get your number. They pay a small fee, so please only pick ones you'd hire.
- 5Book a visit and accept a quote. Visit reminders by text, and a written quote you accept in one tap.
- Free to post. No account until you're ready to go live.
- At most 3 trades get your number, and only the ones you pick.
- Verified badges show the date we checked and link to the public register.
- Reviews only come from real jobs.
- We'll tell you honestly how many verified trades cover your area, even when it's none yet.

- Our small and medium fees (£3, £6) are below MyBuilder's published £7 starting fee, and every Pro fee (£1.50–£5) is too.
- Pay as you go has no monthly fee and no contract, unlike Checkatrade's published monthly membership.

Bark doesn't publish how many credits each lead costs, so we can't compare like-for-like and we don't claim to be cheaper than Bark per lead. MyBuilder fees are ex VAT. If Graftsure registers for VAT, our prices become ex VAT too, so the comparison stays like-for-like.
